AmaroK Sound Problems

After upgrading to the latest version of amaroK (1.3 beta2) I couldn’t play music anymore. It seemed that the soundengine aKode wasn’t available to amaroK anymore.

Help is Near

In order to get amaroK working again make sure you have sound engines installed. Possible candidates are aRts (which didn’t work on my system), xine, GStreamer, and some others. aKode, which worked fine before, seems not to be available for amaroK anymore.

Installing GStreamer and all the available plugins (just to make sure nothing is missing) solved the problem. You can do this with YAST. After selecting GStreamer in the amaroK setup dialog (under Engine) you will have to select an output plugin. I chose alsasink. Now amaroK is working like a charm again.

The system sounds have not been affected by this.
