Adding Images to Your WordPress Post

Since I have been asked several times how to add images to a WordPress post I thought it might be a good idea to post it here.

Workflow for WordPress 2.0.x

Adding images to your post is not overly intuitive in version 2.0.x. One can easily get frustrated by adding thumbnails instead of the fullsized version or vice versa.

  1. Upload your image with the upload function
  2. Click with your mouse in the area where you want the image to appear (in
the text field area, not shown in the screenshots)
  3. Look at the thumbnail, click on the ‘using thumbnail’ line (highlighted)

  4. You will see that this changes it to use ‘original’

  5. Now click on send to editor and the image in it’s original size should be placed in the editor area.

Workflow for WordPress 2.1

Adding an image in this latest version of WordPress is much more intuitive.

  1. Upload your image with the upload function underneath the textarea
  2. Upon uploading a thumbnail of the image will be displayed with several options to chose from

  3. Click with your mouse in the area where you want the image to appear (in
the text field area, not shown in the screenshots)
  4. Select the options you want to choose and click on ’send to editor’
  5. If you want to edit some of the image attributes or even delete it, click on the edit link and the next screen will allow you to do that.
